Age Assurance¶
Bridging the Global Gap in Digital Safety: The Age Assurance Task Force¶
The protection of minors from age-restricted products and content is a global necessity that transcends geographic boundaries and device types. Whether in the physical or digital world, ensuring a safe environment for children requires a coordinated, interoperable approach. To address this, the GDC Age Assurance Task Force has been established to drive practical cooperation across existing and emerging technologies.
The Mission
Background and Scope The Task Force is designed as a light, multistakeholder, time-bound, and non-binding cooperation mechanism. It does not seek to replace the vital work of regulators, national authorities, or standards development organizations. Instead, it focuses on operationalizing practical compatibility to ensure age signals remain mutually recognizable and functional across borders.
Core Objectives¶
The Task Force aims to develop a shared set of principles to guide technical and non-technical decisions while aligning with major legislative and regulatory trajectories. By identifying a minimum common basis for compatibility, the group supports global interoperability and trust.
Key milestones include:
Proof-of-Concept Projects: Utilizing existing solutions for cross-border interoperability testing (including both verifiable credentials and non-VC based approaches).
Demonstrative Pilots: Supporting pilot fragments specifically aligned with the upcoming Geneva milestone.
Membership and Participation¶
The Task Force is co-chaired by representatives from the public and private sectors: Brazil (MGI) and Google.
Who is participating?
GDC Community: All GDC Council members, co-organizers, and their communities are eligible and encouraged to participate.
Knowledge Partners: The Task Force may invite liaisons, external experts, and observers on an ad hoc basis—specifically those actively implementing relevant solutions—to contribute subject matter expertise.
Interested Stakeholders: Other relevant organizations wishing to participate should express their interest to the Co-Leads through the Secretariat.
