Trust Registries Task Force

Background

The current digital identity landscape is highly fragmented. While some regions have implemented solutions for digital trust, others lack harmonized approaches, leading to disparate processes and internal governance policies across platforms. Furthermore, the proliferation of varied technical standards complicates the establishment of universal trust and credential verification globally.

This Task Force was formed as a direct result of GDC discussions in early 2026, identifying the establishment of globally interoperable trust registries as a critical priority. To address these challenges, the Global Digital Collaboration (GDC) Trust Registries Task Force has been officially formed, initially co-led by France (ANTS, Ministry of Interior) and Apple. Underscoring the core GDC principle of robust public-private partnership, this Task Force unites government authorities and private sector leaders to collaboratively build a secure, trusted global ecosystem. The Task Force aims to bridge the gap between technical infrastructure and governance frameworks, driving global interoperability across varied regional and platform-specific ecosystems, such as digital wallets.

Scope and Objectives

The Task Force initially aims to: - Develop a comprehensive governance framework for globally interoperable digital trust registries for government-issued personal digital identities. - Perform gap analyses for both the technical specifications and governance requirements essential for trust registries. - Advocate for the secure and privacy-preserving verification of identity information in digital wallets across diverse digital ecosystems. - Promote greater alignment through a common approach and reduce fragmentation within the digital identity landscape.
